Brew City MKE Bartender Position
Milwaukee County Historical Society

The Milwaukee County Historical Society seeks to hire a Bartender for our pilot site, Brew City MKE, located in downtown Milwaukee.

Brew City MKE seeks Part-time Bartenders to welcome and serve guests Milwaukee beer and related non-alcoholic beverage products at Milwaukee’s pilot beer museum and beer bar. Opening in September 2017, Brew City MKE offers an exhibit featuring Milwaukee’s beer and brewing history as well as Milwaukee’s only bar dedicated to Milwaukee Beer.

As part of a historical brew centered exhibit, the bartender in this position is uniquely tasked with interpreting and relating Milwaukee’s brew history through the beers available on-site, and to introduce and serve Milwaukee beers related to customer interest. Most importantly, our bartender is tasked with providing an inviting beer centered experience that is informative and illuminating of Milwaukee brew history related to modern Milwaukee brewery culture.

Responsibilities include:
– Welcoming visitors to the bar as they enter after their exhibit experience as well as those who have come directly to taste our Milwaukee beer selection.
– Appropriately pouring tap beers and serving bottles and cans, and processing bar sales.
– Promoting and expressing knowledge of the full Brew City MKE experience.
– Directing visitors to other areas of the site for exhibit and retail sales.
– Providing information and answering questions, referring queries to others when appropriate.
– Supervising the bar area and assisting the Site Manager and Visitor Assistant on duty in ensuring the security of the exhibit and site.
– Helping to maintain a clean and tidy bar area.
– Position may be asked to bartend and provide beer related information during programs and events or rentals.

Desired Qualifications:
– Current Bartender’s (Class D Operator’s) License or Provisional License to operate in Milwaukee.
– A knowledge and passion for beer and brewing, and its history in Milwaukee, WI.
– A friendly, customer-oriented person with bartending and/or customer service experience.
– Ability to utilize a POS system to process sales and to accurately count and report.
– Museum experience is a bonus but not required.

Working hours vary. The site is open Tuesday through Sunday. Evening and weekend availability may be needed.
Bartenders report to the Site Manager and are employees of the Milwaukee County Historical Society.
