Bay View Glassworks Canes
Starting as the Chase Valley Glass Co. in 1880 and later the Bay View Glass Works, children would be hired to scavange glass fragments to reheat into molten glass. In return, items like glass harps, canes, hats and chains were created for them. Glassblowers worked in horrible conditions and relied on child labor to assist them with
meeting their daily quotas for production. With the introduction of stricter laws, by 1917 child labor had been replaced by machines in the industry.
