Biographical Note: Bigelow Case came to Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, from Simsbury, Connecticut, in 1836. In 1838 he married Elvira H. Wheeler, daughter of Nathaniel Wheeler of Wauwatosa and sister of Lyman Wheeler.  In 1847 Bigelow bought a farm in Greenfield Township, and the family moved North Greenfield (West Allis) in 1848.  Bigelow and Elvira had four children: Mary Alice Frisby, Martha E. Gilbert, Charlotte E. Fisher and Spencer Lee Case.  Bigelow died in 1886 and Elvira in 1887.

Spencer Lee Case, born 1844, married, first, Maria Sexton (1842-1967).  They had one child, Maria, who married Earl Hinckley.  In 1870 Spencer married Mary Elizabeth Marvin (1848-1929).  They had eight children: Winifred May (1871-1970); Myrtle E. (1873-1945); Jessie M. (1875-1906), who married Charles W. Hart, grand nephew of Charles Hart, early settler of Wauwatosa; Agnes Embree, who married Charles W. Hart after Jessie died; Florence Danby (1883-1951); Spencer Leverett (referred to as Spencer L. Case, Jr.) (1885-); Halbert California (1893-1915); Lucy A. (1888-1955).

Winifred May Case married George Nelson Knapp on December 28, 1897.  He had been born in a log cabin in Dane County, Wisconsin, and was a geologist by profession.  During their married life the Knaps lived in West Allis, Wis. then moved to Minnesota, California and Oregon.  G.N. died in Corvallis, Oregon, June 14, 1948.  Winifred returned to West Allis and was very active in organizations.  She returned to Oregon and died in Corvallis October 14, 1970.
