Historical Note: Phillip Jung was a pioneer brewer in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  He was born December 23, 1845, in Dornassehiem, Wetterau.  In 1870 Jung came to America and began working at Rogge & Feigenhaln Brewing Company in New York City.  He later began the maltster for the Foss, Schneider & Bremer Brewing Company of Cincinnati.  Jung came to Milwaukee in 1873 and worked his way into the brewing business.  He became second foreman at the Philip Best Brewing Company.  Then in 1896 he bought the Obermann Brewing Company on the corner of Fifth and Cherry streets.  He married Anna D. Best, daughter of Jacob Best, and together they had six children.  Jung died in Milwaukee on July 10, 1911.

Abstract: The collection includes personal material from the Jung, Best and Heany families: correspondence, receipts, cookbooks, and photographs.  The collection also includes records related to the Jung family’s work in the brewing industry.

Administrative Note: The finding aid was retyped on September 13, 2011 by Jenny Stevenson.
