Abstract: Alan Kulwicki was a race car driver from Greenfield, Wisconsin.  He graduated in 1977 with a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.  Many credit much of his success on the track to his advanced knowledge of mechanical engineering, and he has inspired today’s drivers toward a more scientific approach to the sport.  Kulwicki raced in Wisconsin throughout the 1970’s and into the 1980s until he broke into the NASCAR circuit in 1985 and moved to Charlotte, North Carolina.  He won NASCAR’s “Rookie of the Year” Award in 1986 and also won the Winston Cup (now called the Sprint Cup) Series in 1992 by the closest margin ever recorded. Alan Kulwicki died in a plane crash on April 1, 1993.  He was listed as one of NASCAR’s 50 Greatest Drivers and was inducted posthumously into several racing halls of fame.

Scope and Content: The collection consists primarily of photos, racing magazines/programs, newspaper clippings, car paint designs.  Also included are Milwaukee County Historical Society exhibit proposals from 2012.
