Artifact Collections
Utilizing the web, the Milwaukee County Historical Society is pleased to provide its members and the public with a series of online tours that detail specific collections within the Artifact Division.
The information in our online collections tours comes from an extensive database of more than 10,000 object records created and managed by the Milwaukee County Historical Society. Many of these records contain only basic information. New accessions are being cataloged on an on-going basis.
The Historical Society’s Museum is responsible for the care of approximately 60,000 artifacts that connect to Milwaukee and Milwaukee County history.
These artifacts are collected and cared for with the purpose of connecting Milwaukee’s past to the present, with a focus on the future.
The division’s mission is to preserve, catalog, and research these objects for use in the Society’s exhibits and educational programs. Secondary to this mission is the acquisition of artifacts and the deaccessioning or removal of objects that no longer serve the Society’s collections policy.
The Society is always collecting new artifacts and accepts donations through a Collections Committee.
