Schlitz Atlas

Bronzed statue of Atlas holding up the famous Schlitz Beer globe on his back. Atlas stands on a square base with the Schlitz logo on all four sides. The “Beer that made Milwaukee Famous” slogan is inscribed on the bottom edge. On the back is inscribed “Metallic Art Work, Brooklyn, NY”

Originally founded by August Krug in 1849, the company was acquired by Joseph Schlitz in 1858. In 1902, Schlitz became the largest producer of beer in the world. It is known for the its famous advertising slogans, including “the beer that made Milwaukee famous” and “when you’re out of Schlitz, you’re out of beer.” In 1982, the company was bought out by the Stroh company, which was subsequently sold to Pabst in 1999.
