Jeremiah Curtin was born in Milwaukee, WI in 1835. He was educated at Harvard University and was a linguist and translator. He worked for the United States as a translator in Russia, and specialized in Native American lanquages. Reputed to have known over 50 languages, he was also a folklorist. Jeremiah Curtin passed away in 1906.
