National Voter Registration Day: Make Your Voice Heard
Every election is an opportunity to participate in the civic life of our communities. On National Voter Registration Day, September 15, people across the country are encouraged to register to vote, check their registration, and make sure they are ready for the next election.
National Voter Registration Day is a nonpartisan civic holiday that has been celebrated each September since 2012. Since its founding, the effort has helped millions of Americans register or update their voter registration.
A Part of Our Shared History
The right to participate in our democracy has been an important part of the nation’s history. Over time, voting rights have expanded as Americans have worked to make our democratic institutions more inclusive and representative.
As we reflect on 250 years of American history, it is also an opportunity to consider the ways individuals and communities have participated in shaping the country we know today. Voting is one way people can take part in the decisions that affect their communities, from local government to state and national elections.
Registering to vote is the first step.
