He was a professor of English at James Madison University (1957-1960), Washington and Lee University (1960-1965) and the University of Michigan (1965-1995). He passed away in February 2015.
Scope and Content: The collection consists of correspondence to Eby from several women, predominantly from Milwaukee, he met while stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Station in Illinois. The letters document, as Eby put it, “a dimension of ‘courtship’ that is largely misunderstood.” Correspondents include Audrey LeGath, Joan Hartman, Helen Mueller, Marylyn Forsyth and Leslie Klevenaw. There also is a letter from Eby to the Historical Society explaining the origin of the collection.
