Abstract: The National, State, and Local League of Women Voters were established in 1920, the year women’s suffrage was incorporated into the Constitution of the United States.  The League was founded primarily to promote informed and active participation by citizens in government.  Its basic purposes today are much the same as back then, mainly to foster education in citizenship, to promote forums and public discussions, and to support needed legislation.
