Abstract: The first public schools appeared in Milwaukee in the 1830s, but it wasn’t until the city was incorporated in 1846 that a Board of School Commissioners was appointed to administer the growing public school system.  In 1859, Rufus King became the first Superintendent of Schools.  As of 2015, there are 157 schools and 77,391 students in the system

Scope and Content: The collection consists of annual and miscellaneous reports, publications, scrapbooks, clippings, and other ephemera.
