The following records can be requested through our online form or by calling the Research Library.
Incorporation Records 1872-1960
Bound name indexes. Business and organizational articles of incorporation. These include Articles, Amendments and Dissolutions. These documents cannot be photocopied, but digital photos are allowed and charged our normal photocopying fee.

Milwaukee County Probate Records 1835-1916
There are two series of original probate records spanning the years 1835-1916 with scattered files after 1916. Alphabetical name indexes for both series are available at the Research Library. Generally our records are noted as wills, estate, or assignment of guardianship. All cases are on film at the Milwaukee County Courthouse.

Milwaukee County Civil Court Cases 1837 – 1974
These are civil cases such as divorces, and lawsuits brought by individuals against other individuals or companies. Criminal court index (list of subpoenas ONLY, not full cases) from 1838-1879.

Milwaukee County Coroner’s Records 1873-1935, 1960-1999
Full alphabetical name index, which includes cause of death for years 1873-1890. The files contain death certificates and inquest testimony. Please note that an inquest was not held for every death, just for those unattended by a physician, accidents or other suspicious circumstances.

Milwaukee County Circuit Court and Municipal Court Naturalization Records, 1836-1941
Final Petitions for Naturalization and Declarations of Intent. Alphabetical card index for naturalizations, bound indexes for intents. Papers after September 1906 are more detailed than those before that date. Women did not fill out naturalization papers until 1922, after they were granted the right to vote. Prior to 1922, a woman was naturalized through the action of her father or husband.

Milwaukee County Birth, Death, and Marriage Records
Birth records from the 1850s to the present, death records from 1872 to the present, and marriage records from the 1830s to the present are at Vital Records at the Milwaukee County Register of Deeds. Please see their website for more information.
