Pitcher

1901

Art pottery ewer. Cylindrical shape with applied curved handle. Has a pronounced rim with a carved lion’s head protruding from one side. The lion’s head is painted solid blue. Grey glaze with blue decorative painting. Blue flowered motif painted on the side of the handle. Scroll and leaf design motif painted solid blue from the rim, which runs dark to light as it progresses down the body of the pitcher. The design ends with a leaf and flower motif.

A Maker’s Mark, “SF” is inscribed in blue on the underside of the pitcher. The year, 1901 is inscribed in blue on the underside as well.
