Abstract: Dorothy Enderis was an early Milwaukee educator and pioneer in pairing community recreation with learning. She began her teaching career in Milwaukee in 1909 as a fourth grade teacher and by the time of her retirement in 1948 she had become the Assistant Superintendent of the Milwaukee Public School system which consisted of 62 playgrounds, 32 social centers, athletic programs, and many citywide services. Throughout her career Enderis received many honors and awards for her efforts to reform and provide places for the Milwaukee community to learn, play, and engage in an ethnically diverse setting.
Scope and Content: Certificate of appreciation from U.S. Armed Forces Assistance Program for helping with German Youth Activities Program in Germany, and Enderis family correspondence (most in German).
