Abstract: Paul Gnauck was born in Germany and immigrated to the U.S. in 1907. He started the Wisconsin Aero Club and, with Jack Vilas, built the first seaplane (or flying boat) in Wisconsin in 1914.
Scope and Content: The collection includes receipts, an essay and newspaper article by Johanna Gnauck regarding Paul’s efforts, with Vilas, to build the first seaplane. In addition, the collection contains two items from the family: a school certificate for Johanna Syring Gnauck and a patrolman’s merit certificate for Herbert Roth.
