Scope and Content: Mr. Gullen was a Milwaukee resident who owned a home in the Third Ward and farmed in the country. In the summer of 1851 he was murdered by Patrick McDonald and James Connaughty, which became a famous case. This file contains a description of events around his murder and a petition signed by Milwaukee’s urging Gov. Farwell to commute the death sentences of  Mr. McDonald and Mr. Connaughty to life imprisonment.
