Abstract: The Hansen and Deuster families were connected by marriage in 1886 when Oscar Hansen married Emilies Anna Deuster.  The Hansen family was long involved in the furrier business in Milwaukee (started in 1862) through the Hansen’s Empire Fur Factory.  The family also launched the Hansen & Resch Hat Company in 1895.  Emilies’ father, Peter Deuster, was a long-time newspaper publisher, and also served in the U.S. Congress and as U.S. consul at Crefeld Germany.

Scope and Content: The collection contains correspondence to/from various family members, primarily Oscar and Emilie Hansen and Peter Deuster, including a letter from Mexican president Porfirio Diaz; a Deuster family tree; a commencement program for the 16th District School No. 2, 1909; and a wedding announcement for Oscar Hansen and Emilies Anna Deuster, 1886.
