Historical Note:

Ernst Meixner was born in 1879 in Neuenburg, Germany.  He came to America in 1902 and settled in Milwaukee, WI in 1903.  In 1908, Ernst married Wilhelmina Heinz and they had four daughters: Erna, Gertrude, Hedwig and Mary.  Ernst worked as a machinist, and was employed at Miller Brewery in Milwaukee from 1907-1953.  He was a member of the International Machinist Union for 50 years, and also joined the Socialist party while in Milwaukee.  Ernst was active in the choral groups Barden Maennerchor and Liederkranz.  He died in 1969.  The records in this collection consist of mainly of Ernst Meixner’s papers.  This includes information on Miller Brewery, as well as pamphlets, minutes, journals and articles pertaining to groups Ernst Meixner participated in or was interested in.  There is also some information from Erna, Gertrude, Hedwig and Mary Meixner.
